An overflow, bipartisan crowd welcomed the Need To Impeach movement, aimed at removing President Trump from office, to San Antonio last evening, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The 7 p.m. whistle stop at the Sunset Station Deport featured billionaire founder and clean energy advocateTom Steyer, known for his impassioned television commercials that call out the President for what he and other critics see as violations of the Constitution and oath of office.
Steyer told the standing-room-only gathering that. according to a group of Constitutional scholars, Trump has violated up to nine presidential standards, including and notably Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8, the so-called "emoluments clause."
"The president cannot take any payment whatsoever from a foreign government or from our government except his salary," Steyer said, "which this President does virtually every hour of every day through his real estate operations and his other businesses."
U.S. Air Force veteran David Plylar told News Radio 1200 WOAI he wanted to see Steyer in-person after watching Trump 'disrespect America's NATO allies' on television last weekend.
Plylar said he considers Trump's behavior during the NATO meetings "embarrassing."
"Meeting with allies in Europe and putting them down, and meeting Putin, our potential enemy, and being nice to the guy," said Plylar, are among the reasons he would like to see Trump no longer occupy the White House.
"I don't think that the President is standing up to his oath of office," Plylar added. "He's attacking our law enforcement people - the Department of Justice and the FBI."
Ann Flaggert said she opposes removing Trump because of the Presidential line of succession.
"I think if we impeach him, then we're going to get Pence, Vice President Pence."
