A three year old child was shot at a northwest side trailer park this morning, and police believe it was accidental, News Radio 1200 WOAI's Michael Board reports.
It happened at the Northwest Trails Mobile Home Park at Loop 1604 and Shaenfeld Road.
The child was rushed to University Hospital in extremely critical condition.
Police spokesman Carlos Ortiz says the child was in the home with the mother and another sibling.
"The only witness we have right now is the mother. She was awoken by the sound of the gun going off. That's when she called police."
The child was hit once in the abdomen.
The gun belonged to the mother's boyfriend, was living in the trailer home. He was at work when the shooting happened.
It's unclear where the gun was when the shooting happened.
