One of the largest firms in the United Kingdom is considerign opening its U.S. divisional headquarters in downtown San Antonio, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The Hut Group is the largest privately owned company in the U.K., and it is one of the world's largest online beauty, well-being, and technology companies.
It is THG's technology operations, called THG Ingenuity, which are growing the fastest, with operations in 193 countries.
The Hut Group's web site says THG Ingenuity is involved in e-commerce, as well as web design and hosting. It is part of a global conglomerate which markets beauty products under the 'Lookfantastic' brand, as well as subsidiary brands.
"THC has great growth potential in San Antonio," Mayor Nirenberg said. "It was obvious that THG was a perfect fit for downtown San Antonio's booming technology sector when I first spoke with them several months ago."
According to an incentive plan which will be voted on later this month by Bexar County Commissioners and City Council, THG would receive $500,000 in tax money in exchange for the creation of at least 165 high wage jobs, all of which would pay in excess of $70,000. The county's incentive package is includes a $250,000 grant from the Bexar County Innovation Fund.
Jenna Saucedo-Hererra, the city's Economic Development Director, says THG is considering the historic Commerce Building downtown, the one time home of Alamo National Bank, as its location.
"San Antoio's secret is out," Saucedo-Herrera said. "Our cost competitiveness, growing techj workfore suppored by military talent, and downtown development opportunity cannot be matched by other U.S. cities," she said.
THG would also provide a major boost to the Tech Corridor, the strip of downtown and Pearl-area tech companies and the tech incubator Geekdom.
