That conspiracy theorist who barged into Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church in May and accused the victims of the November shooting of being 'crisis actors,' now faces a crisis of his own, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Federal prosecutors have charged Robert Ussery of Lockhart with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and he faces up to ten years in prison. Ussery, 57, was ordered held pending a court appearence today.
Ussery, who calls himself 'Side Thorn' on conspiracy web sites, along with his girlfriend, who goes by the name 'Conspiracy Granny' entered the church on March 5 and started accusing the pastor and church members of staging the November shooting, and claiming all 26 people who were killed that Sunday morning are 'crisis actors' who are hired to pretend to have been killed in mass shooting events.
It turns out that Ussery was convicted in Brazoria County back in 1984 of burglary of a vehicle and was sentenced to four years in prison.
The girlfriend, who videoed the entire event was not charged.
In the video, Ussery can be seen telling a member of the congregation that 'the people will hang him for perpetuating a hoax.'
Ussery belongs to a bizarre subset of conspiracy theorists who believe that mass shooting events like the Parkland shooting in February and the Sutherland Springs incident last year are all staged events, and are designed by the government to provide a pretext for seizing guns from Americans.
