San Antonio Lawyer Gets Six Years for Ripping Off Clients

A disgraced former San Antonio attorney will be a 'jailhouse lawyer' for the next six years, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

A federal judge today sentenced Todd Prins, 52, for ripping off clients, and even defrauding his own law firm.

Prins pled guilty to setting up elaborate schemes to convince trust fund clients that their money was safe in his trust account, even photo-shopping fake fund account statements that indicated multi million dollar balances, even though, in one case, the balance was barely $1,000.

Federal prosecutors say Prinz would also forge court documents to mislead clients that he had won judgments in their favor in various courts, when in fact he had not.  Prinz forged documents from the Bexar County District Court, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, and even the Texas Supreme Court, to keep the ruse going.

Today, the real U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, sentenced Prinz to six years in prison, and ordered him, after he gets out, to write checks totaling $2.9 million to all of the people he ripped off.
