Non Citizen Living in Texas Charged with Illegal Voting

A Mexican national has been charged with two felonies for allegedly stealing the identity of a Houston woman and illegally voting in the 2004, 2012, and 2016 elections, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says his office has agreed to prosecute Laura Janeth Garza, who is not a U.S. citizen, on charges of voter impersonation and ineligible voting, and she could get up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Paxton says Garza was busted when the woman whose identity she stole tried to get a passport, and was told that Garza had already gotten one in her name.

“This case demonstrates my office’s commitment to protecting the integrity of elections,” Attorney General Paxton said. “We will continue to do everything in our power to safeguard the electoral process in Texas.”

No word on who Garza voted for in those three elections.
