The Battle of Flowers Parade Winds Through Downtown

Huge crowds took advantage of near perfect weather today to take in the sights and sounds of the Battle of Flowers Parade, the heart of Fiesta, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

11,000 people participated in the parade, from band members to marchers to people on floats and riding on horseack.

The parade started earlier this year, and with morning clouds still in the sky, that will reduce the dangers of heat stroke and dehydration we have seen in the past.

The Battle of Flowers parade dates from 1891, and was the event that the entire Fiesta celebration is based around.  It is still the largest parade in North America to be organized completely by women.
