Two Killed in Naval Air Station Kingsville Crash

Two civilians were killed this afternoon when their civilian World War Two era plane crashed on takeoff from Naval Air Station Kingsville in South Texas, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The Navy says the pilot and the passenger had been visiting an employee of the station and had just taken off when the plane crashed.

The plane was identified by a base spokesman as a T-6 Texan, a plane designed to train pilots from World War II into the 1970s.

The Navy said  no military personnel were involved in the crash and no damage occurred to airfield runways or equipment.

Naval Station Kingsville, which is south of Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico, is one of two naval sir stations designated for jet/strike pilot training, according to the Navy.
