A 19 year old man tried to shoot down the door of the apartment where his ex girlfriend lives on the southeast side this morning, then kicked down the door and shot the 18 year old woman in the head, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The victim was dead when police got there.
The suspect then went into a wooded area near the Sereno Park Apartments at I-37 and Southeast Military and shot himself in the head.
He was dead by the time police got there.
"We have a very seriously tragic incident that happened here this morning," Chief Bill McManus said.
"She was 18 years old, about to graduate from high school, he was 19 years old."
Police immediately got a description of the suspect, and following a brief search on foot, by vehicle and in a police helicopter, they found the suspect dead in a wooded area nearby. He was dead when police found him.
UPDATE: Both students were seniors at Highlands High School. The SAISD released the following statement:
We learned this morning of the shocking deaths of two seniors at Highlands High School, which occurred this morning off campus. What happened is tragic, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of these students. A crisis team of counselors was sent to the school to support students who are trying to cope with the news of these deaths. Staff and faculty are being watchful for anyone at the school who may need assistance.
