Twenty Dogs, Birds, Poultry Rescued from Tiny West Side Home

Animal Control Services officers raided a small house off Brazos St. on the southwest side today, and seized a number of animals which were crammed into the house, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"We've got roughly twenty dogs," ACS Officer Shannon Sims said.  "In addition we have a high number of exotic birds, in situations that we would rather not see them in, as well as some larger poultry back in the back."

He said one person, an 'elderly female' lives in the house.  He says ACS had been to the house on several occasions to try to deal with the situation without having to seize the animals.

"Its definitely not sanitary conditions for the animals, or for the individual living there."

Sims says the animals, including the birds and the poultry, will be cared for by ACS or by rescue organizations, and it will be up to a judge to determine what the fate of the animals will be.
