Escape from the Bexar County Jail Foiled

Bexar County Deputies today foiled what they say was an attempt to escape from the County Jail, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Officials say a hole was punched into the outside wall of the jail, which is located just west of downtown. Officials quickly locked down the jail and closed area streets.

They determined it was an escape attempt that had been 'foiled before it came to fruition,' and there was no threat to public safety.

Just last night, the Sheriff's office received a report from the State Jail Standards Commission, which determined that deputies learned in January that the escape of three murder suspects March 2 was in the works, and learned in August that inmates were bringing items into the jail through 'handmade lines' thrown out of an exercise yard.

It was that exercise yard were the three men escaped. They were discovered less than an hour later and are back in jail.

No word if the inmate or inmates who was planning to escape in today's action has been identified.
