Ethan Couch may be out of jail in Tarrant County, but Texas Mothers Against Driving is still outraged at the way his high profile case was handled, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Couch is the suburban Ft. Worth teen who managed to convince a judge, after he killed four people while driving drunk a the age of 16, that he was 'too rich to go to prison,' and instead received probation. He was dubbed the 'Affluenza Teen"
Couch was released from the Tarrant County Jail on Monday after serving 720 days not for killing the four people, but for violating the terms of his probation, including once fleeing to Mexico with his mother.
"He was basiclaly slapped on the hand and turned loose," Ron Silvan of Texas MADD told News Radio 1200 WOAI. "Only because he couldn't behave himself while on probation did he serve any time."
Couch is now 20, and Silvan says he has a responsbility to now live his life in a way that benefits people.
"Ethan Couch has an opportunity today to start fresh, and we hope he takes advantage of that," Silvan said. "But unfortunately, the families of who lost loved ones, they have a lifetime sentence."
Couch's mother Tonya Couch is awaiting trial for her role in the escapade.
