Google Fiber is expanding its super-fast Internet service to more parts of San Antonio, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Google San Antonio spokesman Tyler Wallis says this time it is going into the fast growing neighborhoods in far west San Antonio.
"We launch sign-up, we get people installed, and while we are doing that work, we are constructing new neighborhoods," he said.
San Antonio was one of the first cities in Texas picked for Google's super high speed Internet service. Unlike other providers, Google Fiber does not offer cable TV service on the argument that its customers want pure fast internet and are more interested in streaming than watching cable TV.
"San Antonio is one of the first markets that Google has launched without a traditional cable TV package," Wallis said.
He says people in Westover Hills and surrounding areas will be able to sign up for Google Fiber starting next week. He says more new neighborhoods will be added in April and May, as Google plans to blanket the county.
Economic development officials say the selection of San Antonio as a Goodle Fiber city, the the deployment of high speed Internet services by other companies, will be a major attraction to companies as they seek to move or expand.
