Opioids at the Heart of a Major Drug Roundup in Seguin

16 people have been arrested in Seguin in connection with a major investigation into drug dealing in the city, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police Chief Kevin Kelso says the arrests follow an uptick in opioid addiction cases in the city."We have arrested these individuals for the distribution and manufacturing of narcotics within the City of Seguin," he said.

Chief Kelso says the suspects were also selling heroin, meth, cocaine, and marijuana in what was called 'Operation Raging Bull.'

The operation was carried along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the DPS, the U.S. Marshals, and the Guadalupe Count District Attorney.

Kelso says it began with a probe seven months ago into the increase in opioid cases."One tip leads to another tip, and befoe you know it, we are asking for help."Officials say 66% of drug fatalities in the U.S. today involve opioids, and 174 Americans each day die from opioid use.

The Segin Police Department and the DEA says it will continue 'aggressive enforcement and interdiction on a daily basis.'

"It was a good day for the Seguin Police Department, and this will have a good impact on the quality of life issues in our city," Kelso said.

He said numerous weapons were also seized.
