Bernie Sanders Speaking in San Antonio Tonight

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who remains the darling of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, begins a speaking tour of Texas tonight with a stop in San Antonio, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Sanders will speak tonight at Laurie Auditorium at Trinity University, in an event which is already sold out.

That doesn't surprise Manny Garcia, a spokesman for the Texas Democratic Party.  He says it is proof that Democrats are gaining momentum in Texas and elsewhere.

He also thinks it is significant that Sanders is making several stops in Texas, a state which he essentially ignored during his 2016 Presidential campaign.

"What is shows is that Texas is that Texas now on the map," he said.  "The future of the Democratic Party comes through Texas."

And Sanders' appearance shows that the Vermont Socialist continues to fire up young college students, and is not ignoring the possibility of making a second bid for the White House in the wide open 2020 race for the Democratic nomination.

Garcia says Sanders will send a message to progressives, and to progressive donors, who frequently have not participated in local Texas races, that they should reconsider, and realize that Texas is not 'all Republican.'

"We have made it onto the national map, it is critical for national Democrats to invest in this state, and help support our efforts."
