One Building at TMI Evacuated Due to Bomb Scare

Students were evacuated from one of the buildings on the main campus of TMI, at I-10 and Camp Bullis Rd. on the far northwest side this morning due to an e-mailed bomb threat at the school, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"We had our SAPD officers respond to that location, move the students outside to a safe location while they swept the area," SAPD Officer Doug Greene said.

He says the e-mailed bomb threat came in to the high dollar private Episcopal school over the weekend, but it designated Monday as the the alleged bomb would go off.

Greene says the SAPD and TMI officials exercised all due diligence, searching the main building for any trace of explosives.

"The kids were a little rattled this morning with all this, but it's best for us to be safe rather than sorry," Greene said. "We take these threats very seriously."

He says SAPD is now working with the Fusion Center, which brings together Homeland Security Investigations with local officials, to trace the threatening e-mail.

A TMI spokeswoman says activities were not affected at other buildings on campus.
