Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies shot a man overnight who may have suffered from PTSD, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Sheriff Javier Salazar says deputies were called to Sun Candle Street, which is off Potranco Road west of Loop 1604, by a woman who said the man was acting erratically and was waving a shotgun around her and three children inside the home.
Salazar says the woman asked for help getting the children safely out of the home, and the deputies arrived at the house expecting to conduct an intervention.
But when they arrived, he says they found the man inside a closet.
"The deputies ordered the suspect to drop the shotgun several times," Salazar said. "Instead, the suspect leveled the shotgun at the officers. "The officers opened fire. That suspect was struck several times, twice in the upper torso and once in the lower extremities."
Salazar says the suspect was listed in stable condition at University Hospital. No deputies were hurt and the woman and the children were not injured.
Salazar says from the information given to the dispatcher, the suspect may have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
"At this point, he is a 37 year old white male," Salazar said. "They key card indicated PTSD, but I don't know if that's as a result of military service."
