Senate Minority Leader McConnell Endorses Trump for President After Resound

After the major victory for Trump on Super Tuesday, the Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement that “should come as no surprise…”

Haley is out and Trump is the presumptive nominee for president for the Republican party.  Trump smashed expectations with his victories in almost all states besides Vermont and the Republican Senate Leader had to acknowledge his support for the unofficial nominee.

“It is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States,” the statement from McConnell read after Haley announced the suspension of her campaign. “It should come as no surprise that as nominee, he will have my support.”

He continued, “During his Presidency, we worked together to accomplish great things for the American people including tax reform that supercharged our economy and a generational change of our federal judiciary — most importantly, the Supreme Court. I look forward to the opportunity of switching from playing defense against the terrible policies the Biden administration has pursued to a sustained offense geared towards making a real difference in improving the lives of the American people.”

McConnell has recently announced he will serve his remaining two years in office and not seek reelection. Trump and McConnell have been at odds over the past few years with McConnell foisting blame on Trump for the Jan 6th riots and breach of the U.S. Capitol as well as playing politics saying “we have some people in the Senate that are fantastic and would be great at that position,” regarding the presidency.
