According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Biden administration has hired more government employees than ever before setting a new all time high record in January despite massive federal debts.
In January, the U.S. government added 36,000 new employees which include 11,000 employed by the federal government and 19,000 in the local government. This brings the total number of Americans employed by the government to 23,091,000 according tot the BLS. The previous record was set in December with the total number of employees at 23,055,000 making it the third month in a row with record setting government employment.
Over the past 12 months, the government hired 601,000 new employees and averaged 57,000 new jobs every single month in 2023. The government has a massive spending problem with skyrocketing national debt accumulation.
With the increase in federal employment also increased the national debt. The national debt now exceeds $34 trillion for the first time in American history. In the fourth quarter, America gained $328.7 billion in gross domestic product while the deficit increased during the same time period by $800 billion. The math is not adding up, government continues to spend way beyond their means.
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, during the Covid-19 pandemic, hiring of government employees halted and has now resumed without checks or balances. In January, the overall economy did add 353,000 non-farm payroll jobs but the rise in layoffs is concerning as January saw a 136% increase in positions cut.
