The entire Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Department has been suspended "for a period of time" over its handling of May's deadly school shooting, the school board announced Friday.
In addition to the mass suspension, two department officials -- Miguel Hernandez and Ken Mueller -- have been placed on administrative leave, according to Uvalde district officials. At about the same time the suspensions were announced, UCISD Superintendent Hal Harrell announced plans to retire.
The shakeup comes months after it was revealed the officers who responded to the May 24th massacre at Robb Elementary School stood in the hallway for 77 minutes, doing nothing, while the shooter killed 19 students and two teachers.
