California regulators are voting on a groundbreaking plan to phase out production of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
If approved, the measure would require all new cars, trucks, and SUVs sold in the state to be electric or hydrogen-powered.
Gas-powered vehicles themselves won't be banned - they can still be driven or bought used after 2035.
More states are expected to follow suit with their own bans - including Washington state, whose Gov. Jay Inslee has promised to adopt the same regulation "by end of this year".
