The federal requirement to wear face masks on airplanes and other public transportation is scheduled to expire next Monday (4/18).
Airline executives want the Biden administration to ditch the mandate, but White House officials said they are waiting on more guidance from the CDC in the next few days before making a final decision.
The CEOs of airlines including American, Delta, JetBlue, and United recently sent a letter to the White House urging officials to end the mandate, writing in part: "It makes no sense that people are still required to wear masks on airplanes, yet are allowed to congregate in crowded restaurants, schools, and at sporting events without masks.
