A key Senate committee is considering President Biden's nomination of federal Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Judiciary Committee will vote later today to refer Jackson to the full Senate for confirmation.
Illinois Democrat Richard Durbin said Jackson has impeccable qualifications. The committee chairman also accused some Republicans of leveling "baseless attacks" on Jackson while turning the confirmation process into a "circus."
Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley refuted Durbin's claims and accused Democrats of mistreating Republican nominees in years-past. He also cited "fundamental differences" with Jackson and said he cannot support her confirmation. Jackson would be the first Black woman to ever serve on the Supreme Court.
If confirmed, she will replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.
