The Senate Majority Leader is promising his chamber will consider rule changes amid the fierce debate over voting rights.
Democrat Chuck Schumer of New York made that announcement in a letter to his colleagues.
He said changes to the Senate rules will be debated and considered on or prior to January 17th if Republicans don't cooperate.
Schumer insisted it's necessary in order to "protect the foundation of our democracy: free and fair elections."
He also asked how Republicans at the state level can pass changes to voting laws with a simple majority, but the U.S. Senate isn't able to do the same thing.
