Minneapolis voters on Tuesday rejected a proposal to replace the city's police department with a new Department of Public Safety.
Supporters of the plan said a complete overhaul of the policing system was necessary to stop police violence in the wake of George Floyd's death.
Among other things, the plan called for funding of programs that don't send armed officers to calls where people are in crisis. But, opponents warned it could actually leave some communities already affected by violence more vulnerable to crime.
