A Florida school board member is catching heat after she posted photos of an elementary school field trip -- to a gay bar.
The Broward County School Board's Sarah Leonardi posted the photos to her social media sites on Wednesday, showing a large group of children from Wilton Manors Elementary School at popular LGBTQ hangout Rosie's Bar and Grill. "I was SO honored to be invited to chaperone Wilton Manors’ field trip to the incredible Rosie’s!" Leonardi wrote in the accompanying caption. "The students and I had a fun walk over and learned a lot about our community!"
However, a number of people who saw Leonardi's post weren't nearly as enthusiastic.
"This is just wrong on so many levels -- then telling the world that you did it," one person commented. Another wrote, "Not one parent or adult there had a thought that a backdrop of bottles of alcohol for the field trip presentation is inappropriate."
Also posting a comment was Governor Ron DeSantis' press secretary, who criticized Leonardi for defying the state's anti-mask order. "Broward School Board member takes little kids to a gay bar on a field trip, forcing them to wear masks 'to keep them safe,'" Christina Pushaw wrote.
