The City Council in Portland, Oregon, could vote today to prohibit buying any goods and services from Texas.
It would be in protest of the state's new law outlawing most abortions.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick calls the proposed boycott "a complete joke" guaranteed to backfire.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said last week a vote on an emergency resolution banning business with Texas could come today. If the resolution is passed, it would stay in effect until the Lone Star State withdraws the abortion law or a court overturns it.
The trade ban also would bar city employees from traveling to Texas on city business.
