After a strong July, U.S. job growth took a major hit in August.
The economy added just 235,000 new jobs last month - less than half the 2021 monthly average of 586,000, and well below the nearly 1 million jobs added in each of the last two months.
Experts are blaming the spread of the Delta variant, which has slowed the economic recovery and cut demand for services.
Despite the August slowdown, the number of job openings remains high.
