House Republicans want to know how the U.S. plans to return Americans who were left behind in Afghanistan. An unknown number of U.S. citizens did not make it out during the final evacuations from the Kabul Airport.
During a Capitol event, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy said he also wants to see a list of U.S. military weaponry and equipment that was left behind. McCarthy paid tribute to the 13 American service members who were killed in the terrorist bombing at the Kabul Airport last week. He said the troops represented the "best of all of us."
McCarthy accused President Biden of letting politics guide his decision to withdraw remaining U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
The U.S. involvement in the war-torn country has lasted nearly two decades. McCarthy called the withdrawal the biggest failure on the U.S. military stage in his lifetime.
He said there must be accountability, but sidestepped a reporter's question about whether the President should resign or be impeached.
