More than 122,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan as the U.S. withdrawal winds down. That includes more than five thousand Americans.

Army Major General Hank Taylor briefed reporters and talked about the incident involving several rockets that were fired at the Kabul airport. He said U.S. forces "successfully employed force protection measures to thwart that attack."

Meantime, Taylor acknowledged reports of civilian casualties during a U.S. airstrike on an "imminent ISIS-K threat" near the airport. He said it's being investigated.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the U.S. military takes all cases of civilian casualties very seriously. The situation around the Kabul airport remains tense and chaotic. Kirby called this a "particularly dangerous time."

President Biden's deadline for a full U.S. troop withdrawal from the war-torn nation is tomorrow. Kirby was pressed about Americans who may not be able to get out of Afghanistan by the deadline. He said the U.S. will continue pursuing a "variety of means to help those Americans who want to get out after we are gone, get out."
