House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is slamming President Biden and Democrats on Congress for "turning their backs on" Americans in Afghanistan.
The California Republican said Biden is also turning his back on U.S. allies for not extending the August 31st deadline to withdraw all U.S. troops.
He said the Biden administration is responsible for the "largest international hostage situation" the U.S. has ever faced. He called it a "complete failure of leadership" on Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's part.
When asked about members of Congress who traveled to Afghanistan, McCarthy said he understands that they realize this situation is "life and death." He noted that while it wasn't the best idea, he understands their frustration from the lack of answers from the Biden administration. This comes after Representatives Seth Moulton and Peter Meijer, who are veterans, took a trip to Kabul in secret.
