The FDA is granting full approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
That's a first for a coronavirus vaccine. Federal health officials are hoping that will persuade those who are hesitant to roll up their sleeves and get the shots.
It's also likely to trigger vaccine mandates by companies and universities amid a surge in COVID cases driven by the Delta variant.
That was the case in New York City soon after the announcement as there's now a vaccine mandate for teachers and school staff. This will apply to all 148,000 Department of Education employees from teachers to cafeteria workers to contractors in school settings.
