The work of the new January 6th House committee will move forward. Speaker Nancy Pelosi made that statement a day after she rejected House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's Republican picks from the panel.

Pelosi called the committee's work deadly serious and accused some Republicans of mischaracterizing what happened on January 6th. She labeled it an assault on America's democracy. Pelosi did not rule out appointing some other Republicans to the panel.

Pelosi had already named Wyoming Republican Liz Cheney to the committee before McCarthy made his picks. Cheney has publicly accused former President Trump of instigating the attack on the Capitol.

Pelosi said the Democratic-led panel will be going after the truth of what happened and is not out to get Trump.
