The governor of Texas has approved a bill that bans most abortions after six weeks.
Signed into law Wednesday by Governor Greg Abbott, the law -- which some are calling the strictest abortion law in the U.S. -- also makes it easier for residents to file lawsuits against abortion doctors and sets up roadblocks to make it more difficult to block in federal court, Abbott says.
Naturally, the move has sparked outrage among freedom of choice advocates who say most women don't even know they're pregnant at six weeks. "This is an all-out assault on reproductive health by Greg Abbott and Republicans in the Texas Legislature," tweets Texas Democratic Julian Castro. "We must vigorously defend these rights in court, and hold every lawmaker who supported this effort accountable at the ballot box."
