CDC Director Rochelle Walensky is alarmed about rising cases of the coronavirus in the U.S. and is warning about the threat of "impending doom."
She told a briefing that she's scared and argued everyone should still be following public health guidelines on wearing facemasks and practicing safe social distancing.
Walensky added, "We must work together now to prevent a fourth surge."
White House COVID adviser Andy Slavitt also noted the rise in vaccinations and argued this is no time to "let our guard down."
Slavitt and Walensky again urged everybody to get vaccinated when it's their turn. Walensky and Dr. Anthony Fauci warned about premature re-openings in many states.
Fauci talked about the race between rising cases and vaccine distribution. The NIH veteran said, "We can win this by just hanging in there a bit longer."
Dr. Walensky also expressed deep concerns about the increase in the numbers of Americans who are traveling at this time. She insisted that "non-essential travel" should be avoided.
