Senator Richard Burr is slamming his censure by North Carolina Republicans. Burr voted to convict former President Trump over the weekend.
Burr put out a statement saying it's a truly sad day for North Carolina Republicans. He accused other Republicans of choosing "loyalty to one man over the core principles" of the GOP.
Burr argued Trump violated his oath of office. The state's Republican central committee moved to quickly censure the veteran senator after Saturday's Senate vote.
Trump was acquitted of charges that he incited the deadly attack at the Capitol in January. The vote to convict was 57-43, short of a two-thirds majority required for conviction.
Burr was one of seven Republicans who voted to convict the ex-President.
