More than half the U.S. is in the grips of severe winter weather, ranging from ice storms to heavy snow to dangerously cold temperatures.
Over 170 million people are currently under winter weather advisories, and seven states have declared a state of emergency.
The sub-zero cold is shattering previous records - as many as 240 cold temperature records could fall by Tuesday night. NOAA compared it to the historic cold snaps of 1899 and 1905.
