Bill: Police Body Cameras Would Not Be Public If Passed

An Alabama lawmaker is introducing a bill that would make video from police-worn body cameras private.

That means it wouldn't be part of the public record.

However people who appear on videos, their families or lawyers would be able to view the footage.

Democratic Representative Juandalynn Givan says she wants to ensure the families of people killed by officers can see the video.

Civil rights attorneys say the bill could be a problem, because it would create an assumption of secrecy about the video.
