MN Police Dept. Introduce Policy Requiring Officers To Keep Body Cameras On

The Minneapolis Police Department is introducing a new policy requiring officers to keep their body cameras on at all times while responding to a call.

Mayor Jacob Frey and Chief Medaria Arradondo issued a statement yesterday saying officers can no longer deactivate their body cameras to have a private conversation during that time.

The department has already implemented policies requiring officers to announce their presence before executing a no-knock warrant and banning the use of chokeholds.

The new rule is meant to increase accountability and transparency within the department. It will take effect February 4th.

This comes in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd last May while in Minneapolis police custody.
