Restaurants say COVID-19 Relief Bill 'Falls Short'

While the approval of a new COVID-19 relief bill is good news to most U.S. residents, there’s one group who believes it “falls short” of helping them: the country’s 11 million restaurant and bar employees.

“When we've been asked by the government to change the way we do business, our elected officials need to help us stay in business,” reads a statement released by the Independent Restaurant Coalition. “It’s clear Congress wants to help us and we gave them a plan to do that. This legislation isn’t it."

Although the relief bill includes funding for the Payroll Protection Program to help small businesses, restaurant officials say it’s not enough for the food and drink industry. The coalition has been pushing for separate legislation that would provide $120 billion exclusively for restaurants and bars.
