House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is cheering the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue from the U.S. Capitol.
Pelosi released a statement and said there is "no room for celebrating the bigotry of Confederacy in the Capitol or any other place of honor in our country."
States are responsible for adding or removing statues from National Statuary Hall and the Lee statue removal was ordered by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.
Northam called it an "important step forward." Pelosi also defended renaming military bases that commemorate Confederate leaders.
