Mitch McConnell Recognizes Biden As President-Elect

McConnell opened the Senate and also congratulated Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

McConnell noted that the Electoral College has spoken and said Biden and Harris will be sworn-in on January 20th. The Electoral College certified Biden's win with 306 electoral votes this week.

President Trump got 232. Biden also won the popular vote with more than 80-million tallies.

McConnell and other Senate Republican leaders had refused to acknowledge Biden's win for weeks after the presidential election.

President Trump has vowed to continue fighting the election results. Lawyers for Trump and the Republican National Committee have lost dozens of legal challenges, including two at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Meantime, McConnell heaped praise on President Trump and said his list of accomplishments over four years is "nearly endless." He said that included efforts that helped lead to the rapid development of a coronavirus vaccine.
