After enduring days of backlash, the Girl Scouts on Wednesday deleted social media posts in which the organization congratulated Amy Coney Barrett on her appointment to the Supreme Court.
The posts, which appeared on Twitter and Facebook, pictured Barrett and four other female Supreme Court justices. It included the caption, "Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the fifth woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789." The message included the disclaimer, "We are neither red nor blue, but Girl Scout green. We are here to lift up girls and women."
Despite the disclaimer, the posts were met by a tidal wave of negative responses. One person called the Girl Scouts "insanely tone-deaf" for supporting "a woman who believes we should have our rights stripped." Another claimed Barrett "represents the exact opposite of what we instill in our girls." In all, more than 4,000 negative replies were posted.
