Wanted: Those Who Know 61-Year-Old Computer Language to Process Claims

Digital data and binary code in network

States like Connecticut, Kansas and more are urgently seeking those who can code a computer language that was created 61-year-ago to process unemployment claims faster, according to WTIC-TV.

Several states still use COBOL, a system that dominated business systems in the 60s, 70s and 80s because their government's systems are 40 years old or more.

New Jersey's Governor Murphy is frustrated saying over the weekend "How did we get here where we literally need COBOL programmers?"

Part of the federal government like the Department of Veteran Affairs, the Justice Department and the Social Security Administration still use COBOL.
