President Trump aims to ease some key environmental regulations.
During a White House event, Trump described many federal regulations as job killers that waste considerable amounts of time and money. He insisted that there will still be strong environmental and safety standards in place. Trump said he wants to speed-up approval for pipelines, drilling and highway projects. Airport expansions and the construction of mines would also be covered in a revised federal rule.
The plan covers projects that do not have significant federal funding. Trump's plan will likely face aggressive court challenges. Last week marked the 50th anniversary of the landmark National Environmental Policy Act.
