President Trump is still considering the possibility of declaring a national emergency at the southern U.S. border. At a White House photo-op today, Trump said he is waiting to see what Congress does first. Funding for a quarter of the federal government will run out on February 15th, bringing another potential shutdown. Trump said he will reject any longterm plans that do not include billions of dollars in border wall funds, which is what originally prompted the 35-day lockout. If Trump is to declare a national emergency, it would allow him to re-assign Defense Department funding for a wall, but House Democrats would likely initiate an immediate court challenge.
