Pelosi Receives Speaker's Gavel Again

Pelosi receives gavel

Nancy Pelosi is holding the House Speaker's gavel for the second time.  The California Democrat was elected Speaker in a vote of the full House today.  House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy transferred the gavel to Pelosi.  McCarthy called Pelosi an experienced legislator and a true trailblazer.  He said all Republicans and Democrats have a duty to make Congress work for the American people.  Pelosi was Speaker from 2007 to 2011.  She's the first woman to ever hold that job.  Voters returned Democrats to the majority in the House in November's midterm elections.  Republicans retained control of the Senate.
