President Trump told an Ohio crowd Thursday that U.S. forces will soon be pulling out of Syria.
Speaking in Richfield, Ohio, Trump said troops were "Knocking the hell out of ISIS" and that "We'll be coming out of Syria, like, very soon." Trump says it's time to "Let the other people take care of it"
This was all news to the Pentagon, who believe that it's a bad time for the U.S. to withdraw. Just hours before Trump's speech, Pentagon spokesperson Dana White was telling reporters that "important work remains" in the country. Other officials, including Defense Secretary James Mattis and former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have said the U.S. should remain in Syria.
There are currently about 2,000 troops in Syria working with Kurdish and Arab militias to battle ISIS.
Will the U.S. pull out of Syria soon, or was Trump just talking big? Are we really close to defeating ISIS?
