Trump Says He’ll Take Care of Banning Bump Stocks Himself

In a move that will certainly be challenged by the NRA, Trump said that he will take care of banning bump stocks himself and that lawmakers shouldn't worry about it.

"We can do that with an executive order," Trump told Sen. John Cornyn. "I'm going to write the bump stock, essentially, write it out. So you won't have to worry about bump stock[s]. Shortly that will be gone."

These comments comes just over a week after Trump asked AG Jeff Sessions to propose regulations that ban bump stocks and similar devices "that turn legal weapons into machine guns." Legal analysts differ on whether or not an executive order can legally ban these devices.  Is this idea of banning bump stocks more of a symbolic gesture against mass shootings than anything else? Would he have supported this if Obama had written an executive order on it?
