INTERVIEW: Kelcey Friend, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Student

17 people were killed after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire on his former classmates at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Wednesday, February 14.

On Valentine's Day, 16 year old Kelcey Friend went to school just like any other day. Sadly, it was not the Valentine's Day Kelcey - or any of the students - expected.

Kelcey recounts her day in an interview with Joe Pags. " I thought it was just a joke, we had rumors going around school that the police would arrive with fake firearms and fake bullets to go off to scare the students." Friend explains.

Kelcey says she did not know the shooter, but had heard of him. "Oh yeah there were signs, all over Instagram... I'm just surprised no action was taken to prevent this," says Friend.

Kelcey Friend's teacher, 35 year-old Scott Beigel, was killed and is being hailed as a hero.

Friend describes Beigel as "Her favorite teacher and an amazing person that the world needed. He will be missed."

Thank you Kelcey for sharing your story and Mr. Scott Beigel we salute you!
